About this place
The lunchtime favourite “Dress Sushi” makes a little ritual of the moment before you eat. Part omelette rice, part chirashi sushi, it wraps rice seasoned with red and rice vinegar in egg, with seasonal fish served separately for diners to arrange on top. There is pleasure in the combination of egg and rice, as well as in dressing it with the fish. It is available only at lunch and is listed on the menu at ¥2,500.
At lunchtime, you can also choose nigiri or chirashi sets, both served with red miso soup and a mini salad. Nigiri is a good choice if you want to savour the sushi one piece at a time; choose chirashi for a bowl topped with seafood. In the evening, the menu ranges from nigiri such as lean tuna, fatty tuna, simmered conger eel, sea urchin and blackthroat seaperch to sashimi, grilled dishes and other small plates. You might begin with sashimi or a small plate before moving on to nigiri, or simply choose your favourite toppings one piece at a time.
One diner who received the sushi piece by piece felt that each topping had been carefully prepared and could be enjoyed without soy sauce. Another was struck by the way the rice was varied to suit each topping, and singled out seared sardine, live mackerel and blackthroat seaperch among their favourites. Others remembered sea bream and simmered conger eel. These accounts offer a few ideas for exploring flavours beyond the familiar nigiri.
For diners who would rather leave the sequence to the chef, the menu lists the “Chitose” course, with a small dish, sashimi, five pieces of nigiri and red miso soup, for ¥5,000, as well as the “Gekkou” course, with eleven pieces of nigiri and red miso soup, for ¥7,000. Local sake starts at ¥700 a glass. With sushi at the centre of lunch and the option to pair drinks with small plates in the evening, there are different ways to enjoy a meal here.
